Residencies

Zvjezdane Staze for European Sound Artists: Artist in Residence Programme

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, they are inviting artists working in areas of contemporary music composition, experimental music and performance. The residency will take place from the 3rd July to the 30th September, in Mijakovići. The successful applicants are expected to share their outcomes on the residency programme and the Vareš Classic Festival.

Gasworks Residency

This is offered to artists in South Africa and Zimbabwe. This open call is supported by the Artworkers Retirement Society. It is a fully-funded 11 week period. It will take place in London from the 30th September to 16th December. They are welcome to apply to contemporary visual artists, particularly those who are in the early stages of their career. The residency will be a self-led and process-based experience, enabling artists to research, develop and create new connections.

Villa Sonnenberg: Artist-in-Residence Programme for Professional Artists

Villa Sonnenberg is calling for professionals artists of all practices to apply. The theme of 2025 is InterGerneration; what could a more intergenerational relationship look like? How do other cultures deal with this issue? The residency will last about 3 months throughout 2025. You must be able to speak German, English or French. During the residency, artists will contribute by throwing a public event.

Sound Art Lab Residency for International Artists

They are looking for artists outside of Denmark to apply. They are offering a 1 month residency with a grant of 2000 euros, as well as covering travel costs up to 800 euros. The applicants will have free accommodation. It offers an outstanding environment for exploration, experimentation, focus and collaboration. The successful applicants will be asked to hold a workshop for the age group 16-25.

East Call Curatorial Residency

East Call are looking for emerging curators who would like to take up the challenge of contemporary curating as an artistic, social and critical commitment. All you need to do is to fill out the form on their website. The exhibition will last from 14-27 October, located in Budapest, Hungary.

Open Calls

Digital Curator for Vienna’s Festival of Media Arts

For the City of Vienna’s Festival of Media Arts by Foto Arsenal Wien and Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna, Austria. They are collaborating to develop a new concept for the festival which has explored contemporary art, lens-based media, digital culture and technology. They are looking for an experienced and versatile curator who reconfigure the festival to include an online platform for a digital exhibition.

Craft Ontario

They are seeking proposals for a solo and 2 person exhibtion to take place in the Craft Ontario Gallery, in 2025. They are open to all mediums of various artist at any stage in their career. Submissions of both completed, existing work and projects that have not yet been finished will be considered.

Moving Balkans Contemporary Dance Platform: 2025 Showcase

This is a new dynamic collaboration of dance professionals from across the Balkans, who aim to elevate and position dance within Europe. From this open call, 10 contemporary dance works will be selected to be presented on the first edition of the Moving Balkans Contemporary Dance Showcase, which will be held between 10-13th May 2025. The submissions must be at least 20 minutes in length and the authors must have at least 2 years of professional experience as choreographers.

Oslo Negativ Photo Festival

They are looking for photographers to apply to their photo festival. The are multiple prizes, including a solo exhibition in Oslo, Norway, 15,000 NOK prize money and 10,000 for a production budget.

Fellowship

Khoj / Goethe-Institut: 2024 Curatorial Intensive Programme for Curators from South Asia

CISA is a fully funded fellowship programme in the field of curatorial practices, relevant to South Asian visual arts. They are looking for 5 South Asian applicants who are in a career of curating. This includes people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Iran. It will be a month-long residency at Khoj, New Delhi, India from the 15th September to the 15th October, 2024. There will be a showcase in 2025. Travel and living expenses will be covered.

The Africa Institute: Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship 2024

The Africa Institute opens applications for its 3rd cohort of Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship, based in United Arab Emirates. It honours the late Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan and his remarkable legacy in the field of African literature. It is open to novelists, playwrights, poets, script writers, related to Africa and the African diaspora. It will be based in Sharjah, UAE for 3 months, allowing the applicants to complete their work, receiving a grant of 45,000 AED. They will have the opportunity to publish their texts through The Africa Institute’s publications programme.

Zeitz MOCAA/UWC: 2025 Fellowship for African Museum Professionals

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa and the University of the Western Cape have announced an open call for a year long fellowship programme, developed to educate a new generation of art and museum professionals in Africa. 7 applicants will be expected to participate in the ful 12 month study programme on a full time basis, from February 2025 to January 2026. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, this pan-African programme aims to nurture the growth of curatorial practice. The programme covers tuition, accommodation, basic health insurance and monthly fees. Travel and visa costs are not included. ONly the first 100 applicants will be considered for review.

Prizes

Oslo Negativ Photo Festival

They are looking for photographers to apply to their photo festival. The winner will be awarded multiple prizes, including 15,000 NOK prize money,  a solo exhibition in Oslo,  and 10,000 NOK for a production budget. It is open to all artists from across the world, as long as it is lens based media.

Awards

Objectifs Documentary Award 2024 for Artists from Southeast Asia

Their mission is to broaden perspectives through imagemaking and support the voices of Singapore. The award will allow photographers to work on a new or existing project, with the focus on showcasing their native community. The outcome can be either still image or multimedia. There are 2 categories: The Open Category and the Emerging Category. The Open Category is awarded to one recipient from Southeast Asia. The recipient will work with curator Goh Sze Ying to curate and present a solo exhibition at Objectifs in May 2025, and 8,000 SGD will be awarded to work on a new or existing body of work. One finalist will also receive a grant of 1,000 SGD to continue their practice. The Emerging Category will be awarded to two recipients from Southeast Asia. Each recipient receives a six-month mentorship with Jessica Lim, Director of Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops, a presentation at Objectifs in May 2025, and 3,000 SGD to work on a new or existing body of work. One finalist will receive a grant of 500 SGD to continue their practice. Recipients will receive both professional and financial support to work on their project for 6 months, until their work will be exhibited in May 2025. If the recipient is not based in Singapore, they will receive financial support for budget flights and accommodation to attend the setting up of and opening of the exhibition and conduct an artist talk/presentation.

Grants

Indian Ocean Commission: Support for Cultural Events

The IOC is calling for applications for cultural events from organisations based in the Union of the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Mozambique. The grant aims to support inter-island collaborations and promote access to regional markets. Eligible events include a fair, festival, competition, exhibition, conference, workshop and more. Priority will be given to the projects that promote the participation and inclusion of women. The event proposed cannot be less than 5 days or more than 30 days.

Toyota Foundation

They are calling for applications for collaborative projects from East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia for their grant programme called ‘Cultivating Empathy Through Learning from Our Neighbours: Practitioners’ Exchange on Common Issues in Asia.’ The project can be one year long from Nov 24 - Oct 25 or two years from Nov 24 - Oct 26. It must identify issues and conduct a review by surveying and analysing the situation in target countries, carry out activities aimed at providing solutions and produce a tangible output. Team members could include those with practical experience and knowledge, such as practitioners, researchers, creators, policy makers and media representatives.

AFIELD Transitional Justice Grant 2024

AFIELD is looking for innovative ideas by artists and cultural workers that contribute to the process of transitional justice in diverse contexts.Transitional justice centres on individuals and communities within society who have endured severe human rights violations. AFIELD now invites artists of any discipline and cultural workers to submit applications with existing projects/initiatives or with implementable and viable ideas. They will distribute 4 grants of $10,000 USD.
