Top Opp of the Week: NOoF

New Order of Fashion Open Call 2024

The Netherlands-based research and (talent) development platform New Order of Fashion is again looking for regenerative practitioners!

Each year, NOoF invite graduates and forward-thinking fashion creatives to participate in their annual exhibition during Dutch Design Week, and this year, they’re asking for responses to regenerative fashion practices. In addition to an environmental- or material-based approach, they welcome projects with a sociocultural and technological focus.

Relevant aspects of regeneration NOOF is curious about anthropology, biodiversity, community, care, decolonisation,(de-)extinction, ecologies, ecosystem protection, ethical material production and harvesting, holism, health, human non-human/more than human relations, indigenous/ancestral knowledge, locality, meaningful livelihoods, and systemic approaches.

The submission deadline is the 2nd of August 2024, 23:59 CEST. For more information, check their website. 

New Order of Fashion (NOoF) is an international talent platform enabling the next generation of liberal fashion designers to boost the creative industry into circularity and sustainability. NOOF offers research, workshops, fellowships and unique opportunities for those who wish to be at the forefront of this journey.

Residencies

Peripheral Visions: Artistic Residencies

They are calling for applications from contemporary European professional and independent artists to apply for this residency and the development of an artwork. It will take place in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia, starting from Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The projects’ goal is to enhance wartime-industrial identity of the ‘peripheral location’ and the heritage of industrial archaeology. They would like 4 ‘creative ateliers’ or community hubs to come form the project, by mobilising the surrounding community and hosting events/workshops.The artworks that are created will remain in the property of IoDeposito (project partners). A fee will be paid to each artist and transport and accommodation will be covered.

Professional Exchange Programme 2024 for Southeast Asian Practitioners

Taiwan Art Space Alliance, Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, Hyper Wave and Mekong Cultural Hub are calling for applications from art and cultural practitioners. The goal is support practitioners, who are facilitators or organisers of art and cultural/projects from the following countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. The programme will be hosted by an individual or group in Taiwan that has experience to help the visiting practitioner reach their professional aims.

S+T+ARTS4WaterII Residency Programme on ‘Water Sustainability’

They are calling for artists to join their residency, dedicated to water sustainability and the innovation of science and the arts. This time, it will focus on the environmental challenges of ports, coastal areas and waterways over 9 months, across 8 countries: Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Ireland, Austria, Croatia and Slovenia. The selected artists will be able to host multiple exhibitions and events. Applicants of any nationality are welcome, as long as they are able to travel to the country of residency. Up to 40,000 EUR is provided for artists residencies.

Theatre in Palm: Co-production Residencies for Performing Artists 2024

Their partner countries will organise 12 local residencies for emerging artists.The locations are the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Ireland, Spain, Italy and Belgium. Each country will host 5 applicants for 2 weeks, in their local venues. It gives artists the chance to develop their professional skills and network across Europe, fostering collaboration. Each residency will co-produce work of any form (e.g. art, plays, scripts, film, written and more). The only requirement is that it must be able to be displayed digitally in the Theatre Repository, a digital library. Travel, accommodation and some form of compensation will be paid to all successful applicants.

Sound Art Lab Residency for International Artists

They are looking for artists outside of Denmark to apply. They are offering a 1 month residency with a grant of 2000 euros, as well as covering travel costs up to 800 euros. The applicants will have free accommodation. It offers an outstanding environment for exploration, experimentation, focus and collaboration. The successful applicants will be asked to hold a workshop for the age group 16-25.

Tokyo Arts and Space: International Creators Residency Programme 2025

TOKAS is operated by a division of The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. They are offering residencies for international creators working in a variety of field to engage and conduct research activities in Tokyo, Japan. They are offering 4 residencies in total at the moment. Each programme has different time periods in 2025 and 2026. For International Creator Residency Programmes, TOKAS Residency offers accommodation, shared studio space, airfare, living expenses and a fee for the project. For the Curator Residency Programme, TOKAS offers living space, airfare and fee for the project.

East Call Curatorial Residency

East Call are looking for emerging curators who would like to take up the challenge of contemporary curating as an artistic, social and critical commitment. All you need to do is to fill out the form on their website. The exhibition will last from 14-27 October, located in Budapest, Hungary.

Open Calls

Klara i Rosa: Artist Retreat for Female Activists and Artists 2024

They are inviting female activists, cultural workers, artists and more for a 7 day women’s retreat programme. It will take place in Utrine, Serbia from 9 to 15 July 2024. The aim is to renew energy of participants in a natural environment and recharging batteries in a safe women’s space. The programme will have 4 sections: creative, debate, free time and motivation. Travel, food and joint accommodation will be covered.

PASS - Promoting Accessible Shows: Call for Young Composers with Disabilities

PASS is calling for applications from composers under 35 years old of any gender, nationality with disabilities of any kind. Their aim is to create an opportunity of growth and professional employment to enhance the artistic talent of emerging artists with disabilities. The successful applicants will be entrusted to compose one or two pieces for symphonic orchestra. The presence of Sign Language in choreographic form during the musical performance will also be taken into consideration.  The reference theme of the project is the celebration of life and the joy of living. There will be online residencies and an artistic residency in Thessaloniki during August 2024. The expected budget will be 1500 EUR to cover any fees and expenses.

Eastern European Music Academy 2024 for Emerging Music Professionals in Eastern Europe

Musicians and managers (18-30 years old) from Europe are invited to apply for a 3 month hybrid project to help independent artists advance their careers. It will feature classes led by internationally acclaimed experts online, in English, every week on Saturdays. The experts will also offer consultation on Wednesday 1st August to 23rd October 2024. After the 12 weeks are complete, 10 out of 50 students will have the chance to attend the MOST WANTED, in Berlin. The programme will cover a significant amount of the costs. Selected applicants will be asked to contribute a 100 EUR  participation fee.

Oslo Negativ Photo Festival

They are looking for photographers to apply to their photo festival. The are multiple prizes, including a solo exhibition in Oslo, Norway, 15,000 NOK prize money and 10,000 for a production budget.

Ettijahat: Zad Programme for the Mobility of Artists from the Arab Region residing in Europe

Zad is a support framework that has been designed to promote mobility and communication between artists. The Ettijiahat have the main objective to develop an artists’ creativity, while collaborating with their peers. It is open to all artistic and literary specialisations and those of all ages. This includes theatrical work, live performances, film, organising literary readings and art exhibitions. All artists (individuals or groups) from the Arab region, regardless of their ethnic background are eligible to apply. This includes those that have relocated to Europe since 2015. The programme gives priority to those from Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan and Libya. They are able to support costs of travel, accommodation, shipment and translations.

Fellowship

The Africa Institute: Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship 2024

The Africa Institute opens applications for its 3rd cohort of Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship, based in United Arab Emirates. It honours the late Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan and his remarkable legacy in the field of African literature. It is open to novelists, playwrights, poets, script writers, related to Africa and the African diaspora. It will be based in Sharjah, UAE for 3 months, allowing the applicants to complete their work, receiving a grant of 45,000 AED. They will have the opportunity to publish their texts through The Africa Institute’s publications programme.

National Library Board: Research Fellowship

Calling for applications from national and international researchers. The Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship programme is a 6 month residential fellowship in Singapore. The fellow will look into the collections of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library and the National Archives of Singapore, including material from the 16th century on Southeast Asia. The National Library Digital Fellowship is a 6 month programme to support research in the emerging field of digital humanities. There will be a stipend of 3500 SDG per month for living and photocopying expenses and more for international applicants.

Zeitz MOCAA/UWC: 2025 Fellowship for African Museum Professionals

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa and the University of the Western Cape have announced an open call for a year long fellowship programme, developed to educate a new generation of art and museum professionals in Africa. 7 applicants will be expected to participate in the ful 12 month study programme on a full time basis, from February 2025 to January 2026. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, this pan-African programme aims to nurture the growth of curatorial practice. The programme covers tuition, accommodation, basic health insurance and monthly fees. Travel and visa costs are not included. Only the first 100 applicants will be considered for review.

Scholarship

OWHC Young Travelling Scholarship 2024

The Organisation of World Heritage Cities are offering the opportunity to discover and experience cities around the world and understand why UNESCO World Heritage needs to be preserved. The project is aimed at ages 18-28. Each traveller/team has to visit at least 3 different cities, in minimum 2 countries, with at least 2 destinations being one of the member cities of the Regional Secretariat of Northwest Europe and North America. The travellers must share their journeys on a blog and keep everyone updated on social media. At the end of the trips, they should design a creative output (photographs, film, etc.) Applications are open to all. The successful applicants will have a budget of up to 1000 EUR.

Prizes

Oslo Negativ Photo Festival

They are looking for photographers to apply to their photo festival. The winner will be awarded multiple prizes, including 15,000 NOK prize money,  a solo exhibition in Oslo,  and 10,000 NOK for a production budget. It is open to all artists from across the world, as long as it is lens based media.

Visual Arts Open 2024

The VAO is a not-for-profit art competition open to both amateur and professional artists based all around the world. The aim is to give applicants the chance to further their passion and career in the arts sector. Finalists will be able to exhibit and sell their work.

The World Around: 2025 Young Climate Prize and Mentorship Programme

Applications are open for this award and mentorship programme. The aim is to support the generation of designers and activists who were born into the climate crisis and positioned to address it. 25 individuals will be selected (must be under 25 years old) and paired and mentored by a Design Champion, a group of world renowned designers. Each mentee will have 3 hour-long sessions to amplify their projects and come up with new ideas. The group will also embark on a Design Academy. The programme is free and there will 3 winners are the end, who will be selected to their work at The World Around’s annual summit in New York City, April 2025.

M&C Saatchi X Saatchi Gallery Art for Change Prize

It is open to emerging artists around the world. The theme is ‘Tomorrow’ing: Visions of a Better Future’ that applicants will need to respond you. Winning artists will have their work exhibited in the Saatchi Gallery, London, UK. The overall winner will be awarded £10,000 and the other 5 runner-ups will win £2000 each.

Grants

Timisoara 2023: Power Station ++ Mobility Programme for Cultural Professionals

It is a funding programme for internships and travel grants for professionals working in the cultural field, run by the Center for Projects of the Municipality of Timisoara. It is dedicated to increasing the capacity of the cultural sector. The programme is addressed to all people over 18, who are artists, cultural managers, producers, curators and so on. There is funding available to both inbound and outbound travel, with a max grant of 15,000 RON for inbound and 20,000 RON for outbound.

Indian Ocean Commission: Support for Cultural Events

The IOC is calling for applications for cultural events from organisations based in the Union of the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Mozambique. The grant aims to support inter-island collaborations and promote access to regional markets. Eligible events include a fair, festival, competition, exhibition, conference, workshop and more. Priority will be given to the projects that promote the participation and inclusion of women. The event proposed cannot be less than 5 days or more than 30 days.

Toyota Foundation

They are calling for applications for collaborative projects from East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia for their grant programme called ‘Cultivating Empathy Through Learning from Our Neighbours: Practitioners’ Exchange on Common Issues in Asia.’ The project can be one year long from Nov 24 - Oct 25 or two years from Nov 24 - Oct 26. It must identify issues and conduct a review by surveying and analysing the situation in target countries, carry out activities aimed at providing solutions and produce a tangible output. Team members could include those with practical experience and knowledge, such as practitioners, researchers, creators, policy makers and media representatives.

CIMAM: Travel Grants for Annual Conference

The International Committee of Museums and Collections of Modern Art is offering 30 travel grants to support the attendance of modern and contemporary art curators, directors and museum professionals. It will be held from 6 to 8 December, in Los Angeles, USA. The theme is ‘Sustainable Futures: How? When? And for Whom?’. It is also available for those who are in the field of research and specialisation of art collections and museums. Priority will be given to those with junior experience (less than 10 years). The grant will cover conference registration, travel, 4 nights accommodation and CIMAM membership.
