At Trash Club, we aim to support our global community with their independent projects. This week’s opportunities span across Singapore, Australia and one of our own with open calls, fellowships and grants. Scroll down to read more.

Residencies

Singapore Art Museum

The duration of the residency can range from 1 month to 6 months. There are 3 residencies: artist, communication & education and creational & research. They cover free accommodation and travel, as well as a stipend.

Villa Sonnenberg: Artist-in-Residence Programme for Professional Artists

Villa Sonnenberg is calling for professionals artists of all practices to apply. The theme of 2025 is InterGerneration; what could a more intergenerational relationship look like? How do other cultures deal with this issue? The residency will last about 3 months throughout 2025. You must be able to speak German, English or French. During the residency, artists will contribute by throwing a public event.

Ras Al Khaimah Art: Artist in Residence Programme

They invite local and international artists of all mediums to create new work and engage with their community. They offer 6 to 12 months residencies, resulting in an exhibition and collaborative public art installation, in United Arab Emirates. The applicants will be expected to give monthly workshops and donate a piece of theirs. Due to space constraints, residencies can only be offered to individuals, not groups. They will cover residency-related expenses based on an approved detailed budget.

The Farm Margaret River (TFMR) Site Specific Residency for Visual Artists 2025

Calling for applications from emerging and professional visual artists for an 8 week residency, from February to October 2025, in Australia. There will be site-specific projects build on research and collaboration while living on the farm. It offers space and time, for the applicants to consider the natural world, surrounded by South Western Australian beauty. Artists will be encouraged to share their work with the local community, including a written piece, an experience (workshop, talk, etc) and artwork. Strongly advised to hold an Australian or International drivers licence. The successful artist or group will receive 7500 AUD to cover extra expenses.

Plattform Schmuckkunst: Jewellery Artist in Residence Programme 2024

They are looking for applications from jewellery makers and artists. It will take place in July 2024.They offer the possibility of exchange with the local jewellery artists, in order to establish contemporary jewellery art in Graz and Styria, Austria. A selected artist will be able to use the community workshop for a month and show their outcome in a digital and physical solo exhibition. The association provides fully equipped workspace, tools and equipment. Accommodation, material, workshop and advertising costs will be covered.

Baroque Orchestration X: Baroque Orchestration X-Y-Z Residency for Europe-based Musicians

B.O.X is a hybrid baroque band, blending genres and new sounds, calling for applications from Europe-based singers and instrumentalists. The residency will take place from 21 October to 15 November 2023, in Casa Saga, Antwerp. 5 participants will work in collaboration and be guided by mentors. Affinity with non-classical music genres and improvisation skills are desired. There will be a travel and daily allowance, accommodation and top-ups.

Theatre in Palm: Co-production Residencies for Performing Artists 2024

Their partner countries will organise 12 local residencies for emerging artists.The locations are the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Ireland, Spain, Italy and Belgium. Each country will host 5 applicants for 2 weeks, in their local venues. It gives artists the chance to develop their professional skills and network across Europe, fostering collaboration. Each residency will co-produce work of any form (e.g. art, plays, scripts, film, written and more). The only requirement is that it must be able to be displayed digitally in the Theatre Repository, a digital library. Travel, accommodation and some form of compensation will be paid to all successful applicants.

Sound Art Lab Residency for International Artists

They are looking for artists outside of Denmark to apply. They are offering a 1 month residency with a grant of 2000 euros, as well as covering travel costs up to 800 euros. The applicants will have free accommodation. It offers an outstanding environment for exploration, experimentation, focus and collaboration. The successful applicants will be asked to hold a workshop for the age group 16-25.

East Call Curatorial Residency

East Call are looking for emerging curators who would like to take up the challenge of contemporary curating as an artistic, social and critical commitment. All you need to do is to fill out the form on their website. The exhibition will last from 14-27 October, located in Budapest, Hungary.

Open Calls

Moving Balkans Contemporary Dance Platform: 2025 Showcase

This is a new dynamic collaboration of dance professionals from across the Balkans, who aim to elevate and position dance within Europe. From this open call, 10 contemporary dance works will be selected to be presented on the first edition of the Moving Balkans Contemporary Dance Showcase, which will be held between 10-13th May 2025. The submissions must be at least 20 minutes in length and the authors must have at least 2 years of professional experience as choreographers.

Tokyo Festival Farm: Asian Performing Arts Camp 2024

It is a programme for performing arts practitioners working across Asia. The applicants will participate in lectures, workshops and hold discussions with people of different backgrounds. The camp aims to help artists cultivate their thoughts and ideas together, to explore future possibilities. 2 online camps will be held from 25 August and 1 September, followed by an in-person meeting in Tokyo, Japan, from 15 to 30 September 2024. There will be a final presentation to the public where the applicants will share their experiences. Directors, choreographers, playwrights and more are encouraged to apply. Accommodation, event insurance and production expenses and travel will be covered.

Klara i Rosa: Artist Retreat for Female Activists and Artists 2024

They are inviting female activists, cultural workers, artists and more for a 7 day women’s retreat programme. It will take place in Utrine, Serbia from 9 to 15 July 2024. The aim is to renew energy of participants in a natural environment and recharging batteries in a safe women’s space. The programme will have 4 sections: creative, debate, free time and motivation. Travel, food and joint accommodation will be covered.

Oslo Negativ Photo Festival

They are looking for photographers to apply to their photo festival. The are multiple prizes, including a solo exhibition in Oslo, Norway, 15,000 NOK prize money and 10,000 for a production budget.

Fellowship

The Africa Institute: Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship 2024

The Africa Institute opens applications for its 3rd cohort of Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship, based in United Arab Emirates. It honours the late Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan and his remarkable legacy in the field of African literature. It is open to novelists, playwrights, poets, script writers, related to Africa and the African diaspora. It will be based in Sharjah, UAE for 3 months, allowing the applicants to complete their work, receiving a grant of 45,000 AED. They will have the opportunity to publish their texts through The Africa Institute’s publications programme.

National Library Board: Research Fellowship

Calling for applications from national and international researchers. The Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship programme is a 6 month residential fellowship in Singapore. The fellow will look into the collections of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library and the National Archives of Singapore, including material from the 16th century on Southeast Asia. The National Library Digital Fellowship is a 6 month programme to support research in the emerging field of digital humanities. There will be a stipend of 3500 SDG per month for living and photocopying expenses and more for international applicants.

Zeitz MOCAA/UWC: 2025 Fellowship for African Museum Professionals

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa and the University of the Western Cape have announced an open call for a year long fellowship programme, developed to educate a new generation of art and museum professionals in Africa. 7 applicants will be expected to participate in the ful 12 month study programme on a full time basis, from February 2025 to January 2026. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, this pan-African programme aims to nurture the growth of curatorial practice. The programme covers tuition, accommodation, basic health insurance and monthly fees. Travel and visa costs are not included. Only the first 100 applicants will be considered for review.

Prizes

Oslo Negativ Photo Festival

They are looking for photographers to apply to their photo festival. The winner will be awarded multiple prizes, including 15,000 NOK prize money,  a solo exhibition in Oslo,  and 10,000 NOK for a production budget. It is open to all artists from across the world, as long as it is lens based media.

Visual Arts Open 2024

The VAO is a not-for-profit art competition open to both amateur and professional artists based all around the world. The aim is to give applicants the chance to further their passion and career in the arts sector. Finalists will be able to exhibit and sell their work.

M&C Saatchi X Saatchi Gallery Art for Change Prize

It is open to emerging artists around the world. The theme is ‘Tomorrow’ing: Visions of a Better Future’ that applicants will need to respond you. Winning artists will have their work exhibited in the Saatchi Gallery, London, UK. The overall winner will be awarded £10,000 and the other 5 runner-ups will win £2000 each.

Grants

Timisoara 2023: Power Station ++ Mobility Programme for Cultural Professionals

It is a funding programme for internships and travel grants for professionals working in the cultural field, run by the Center for Projects of the Municipality of Timisoara. It is dedicated to increasing the capacity of the cultural sector. The programme is addressed to all people over 18, who are artists, cultural managers, producers, curators and so on. There is funding available to both inbound and outbound travel, with a max grant of 15,000 RON for inbound and 20,000 RON for outbound.

Indian Ocean Commission: Support for Cultural Events

The IOC is calling for applications for cultural events from organisations based in the Union of the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Mozambique. The grant aims to support inter-island collaborations and promote access to regional markets. Eligible events include a fair, festival, competition, exhibition, conference, workshop and more. Priority will be given to the projects that promote the participation and inclusion of women. The event proposed cannot be less than 5 days or more than 30 days.

Toyota Foundation

They are calling for applications for collaborative projects from East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia for their grant programme called ‘Cultivating Empathy Through Learning from Our Neighbours: Practitioners’ Exchange on Common Issues in Asia.’ The project can be one year long from Nov 24 - Oct 25 or two years from Nov 24 - Oct 26. It must identify issues and conduct a review by surveying and analysing the situation in target countries, carry out activities aimed at providing solutions and produce a tangible output. Team members could include those with practical experience and knowledge, such as practitioners, researchers, creators, policy makers and media representatives.

CIMAM: Travel Grants for Annual Conference

The International Committee of Museums and Collections of Modern Art is offering 30 travel grants to support the attendance of modern and contemporary art curators, directors and museum professionals. It will be held from 6 to 8 December, in Los Angeles, USA. The theme is ‘Sustainable Futures: How? When? And for Whom?’. It is also available for those who are in the field of research and specialisation of art collections and museums. Priority will be given to those with junior experience (less than 10 years). The grant will cover conference registration, travel, 4 nights accommodation and CIMAM membership.
